Cape Panwa – Phuket Travel Guide
Cape Panwa, located barely 10 minutes away from Phuket town, is not very popular with tourists, though it has a lot to offer. Developers also have not favored this place with very few resorts nestled amidst palm and rubber plantations. Phuket’s naval base and deep-sea port are located here. The Phuket Aquarium at the Marine Biological Center is a major tourist attraction.
Cape Panwa has a 300m esplanade that divides the place into two. The western part is narrow and is located adjacent to Navy Headquarters. Fishermen use this part to beach their boats and children use the safety barricade to perform breath-taking dives during high tide.
Phuket Aquarium is located at the south end of the Cape. This aquarium has on display many varieties of colorful aquatic life seen in the Thai seas. The beach near the aquarium is calm and ideal for sunbathing. It also offers excellent views of other islands like Koh Lone.
As the place is not much frequented by tourists, it doesn’t have any elaborate facilities either. There is a huge pier at the end of the cape, which is mostly used by the Navy and for other commercial purposes.
If you are one of those lucky ones staying in the Cape Panwa Hotel, you will get to enjoy the beautiful private beach of the Hotel.
How to reach
Reaching Cape Panwa from Phuket town is very easy. While getting out of town, take the left turn and take Sakadit Road, which ends in Cape Panwa. As tourists visit this place mostly because of the Phuket Aquarium, there are road signs at frequent intervals giving you directions to the aquarium. Take the left turn at Naval Headquarters and you will see Cape Panwa beach.
Things to do
Aquarium is the most visited place here. There are no facilities for beach activities. The esplanade offers some entertainments for tourists.
